My Little Pony for Android: Basically 'My First RPG'

My Little Pony

I'm the only one here at Android Central who has young daughters, so it came as a bit of a shock that I had to fight off the other guys for first dibs at the My Little Pony game for Android. (Take that, Hildenbrand!)

It also was a bit of an unwelcome surprise that for a kids game, you have an extra 87 megabytes of data to download. And don't hand your phone or tablet over to your kid just yet -- there's a scrolling scroll of scrollable legalese to acknowledge before you get anywhere near those beloved ponies.

And once you get through all that (OK, it's not all that difficult, but c'mon, this is a kid's game!), finally you're in Ponyville, where apparently Nightmare Moon (whom I believe was one of Frank Zappa's prized mares) has cast the entire town into darkness. A little confusing because the sun's up and birds are singing, but whatever. Just tell your kids it has to do with last weekend's time change, and they'll be none the wiser.

From there, the game blissfully walks you through the ins and outs of whatever it is you're supposed to be doing with a few helpful arrows. I'm still not quite sure what it was I was doing, or which character was doing it, or why that blasted hot-air balloon kept flying by and distracting me. But I'm also pretty sure the little girls who just stole my Nexus 7 do, and that's all that matters. They also don't seem to mind the in-game advertising, which is good, since the game was free in the first place.

So if you wanna be the best parent ever this weekend, hit the link above and kiss your Android phone or tablet goodbye for a few days. Because it's Pony Time.

Trade Unions Attempt To Boost Maori Employment | Stuff.co.nz

Trade unions are trying to forge closer relationships with iwi groups to boost employment for Maori, but the Government is still being blamed for the latest rise in joblessness.

The number of unemployed Maori rose from 12.8 per cent in June to 15.1 per cent in the three months to September. Comparatively unemployment among New Zealanders of European ethnicity grew just 0.2 percentage points to 5.4 per cent from the previous quarter, while the overall national unemployment rate went up 0.5 points to 7.3 per cent.

Council of Trade Unions vice-president Syd Keepa said he had seen many more redundancies since the end of the September quarter and he would not be surprised to see the rate go higher.

He said Maori were traditionally employed by manufacturers such as sawmills which were proving uncompetitive against Asian manufacturers, especially with the high New Zealand dollar.

"I don't know how much of an effect the building programme in Canterbury's going to have . . . but in terms of building [products], that's where we're seeing a lot of our redundancies in manufacturing basically," Keepa said.

He's unhappy with the Government's decision to cut staff in the public service and the possible closure of the Hillside Engineering Workshops after train manufacturing contracts were awarded to overseas companies.

He said many Maori had moved to Australia to find paid work and believed the unemployment figure would be "horrendous" if that option was not open to them.

"I see some training being done but unfortunately a lot of those trained people go to Australia . . . it's good to get people trained up but where are the jobs? That's the reality, there are no jobs."

In September the CTU opened discussions with iwi leaders at a hui in Tauranga with a view to creating jobs for Maori, he said.

No concrete solutions had been reached yet.

Admiral Capital Real Estate Fund Makes First Multifamily Investment ...

San Antonio, TX ? November 8, 2012 ? (RealEstateRama) ? San Antonio-based Admiral Capital Real Estate Fund and Wood Partners of Atlanta have acquired 209 apartments within The Brookhaven, a Class A urban high-rise located on the northern perimeter of Atlanta?s prestigious Buckhead neighborhood.

?We are very excited to make our second Admiral investment in Atlanta and our first in the multifamily sector. We have been fortunate to build a diversified portfolio of value-add properties and capitalize on opportunities in the market to acquire high quality assets at a significant discount to replacement cost,? Admiral Capital Group founder David Robinson said. ?This is consistent with our overall fund approach to identify assets that need capital and repositioning and partner with best-in-class operators like Wood Partners to execute that strategy.?

The Brookhaven, built in 1985, is located at 3833 Peachtree Road, less than two blocks from Buckhead?s center, and three blocks from a MARTA rapid transit station. Interiors were modernized in 2008 to feature hardwood floors, custom cabinetry and enclosed sunrooms.

The acquisition team of Wood Partners, a national real estate company with deep expertise in multifamily acquisition, development, construction and property management, plans to enhance renovation of the 17-story building common areas with expanded parking, a state-of-the-art fitness center and a resort-style amenity deck with a water feature, outdoor bar and bocce ball court. This will complement the existing amenities package that includes a heated pool, men?s and women?s saunas and lighted tennis court.

?The property was a broken condominium project and was available at an attractive return when compared to comps in the submarket,? said Jay Jacobson, director of acquisitions for Wood Partners.

The Brookhaven represents the second investment in the dynamic Atlanta market for the Admiral Fund, which also purchased, in a joint venture with Atlanta-based SDM Partners, a 160,000- square-foot Class A office property in the Central Perimeter submarket in September 2012. In addition, the Admiral Capital Real Estate Fund, a value-added real estate private equity fund with more than $150 million in assets under management, owns three additional office buildings, two hotel properties and a performing mortgage on a non-gaming hotel in Las Vegas. The Admiral Fund continues to pursue value-add opportunities across the U.S.

Admiral Capital Real Estate Fund is a joint venture with USAA Real Estate Company and Admiral Capital Corp (?ACG?). ACG was founded by NBA Hall of Famer, philanthropist and U.S. Naval Academy graduate David Robinson and managing partner Dan Bassichis. USAA Real Estate Company is a subsidiary of USAA, a leading financial service company serving military families since 1922.

The broker on the acquisition was Jones Lang LaSalle?s Capital Markets, a full-service global provider of capital solutions for real estate investors and occupiers, led by Managing Directors David Gutting and Derrick Bloom.

Articles of Health: The Cause and Cure for Rheumatioid Arthritis

Current medical science suggests that rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is an autoimmune disease, theorizing ?that white blood cells mistakenly attack healthy joints, tissues and organs causing chronic inflammation and degeneration of the joints and organs.? In contrast and in the reverse, my thirty years of hematological research suggests that any inflammation and/or degeneration of tissues, joints and/or organs is the result of tissue, joint and/or organ acidosis from the retention of dietary, metabolic, respiratory, and environmental acids that have not been properly eliminated or excreted through the four channels of elimination - urination, perspiration, defecation and/or respiration. ?My own research suggests that acid retention primarily from diet and metabolism breaks down tissues, joints and/or organs that causes the activation of the white blood cells as a jnaitorial cleansing mechanism rather than a mechanism that attacks and destroys invading microorganisms or miestanely attacking healthy or unhealthy joints, tissues and/or organs. (1,2)

The main purpose of white blood cells is to maintain cleanliness of the blood and tissues as the primary janitors of the body fluids in the support of the body's alkaline design. ?In the thirty plus years of looking at live unstained and unchanged blood I have never witnessed white blood cells attacking healthy tissues, joints or organs. (1,2)?

My pH Miracle "New Biology" theory suggests that all sickness and disease, including rheumatoid arthritis is caused by the over-acidification of the blood and then tissues due to an inverted way of living, eating and thinking. (2) ?I call this retention of acid in the tissues, "Latent Tissue Acidosis." ?Simply put, inflammation can only exist when acid is present and when acid is present this causes inflammation that leads to tissue and/or organ degeneration. ?There is no other cause of inflammation than the retention of dietary, metabolic, respiratory and/or environmental acids which have not been properly eliminted through the four channels of elimination. ?The body will only adsorb and then absorb dietary and/or metabolic acids when they cannot be properly eliminated. ?This is the way the body protects the delicate alkaline pH of the blood at 7.365. (1,2)

On the other hand, living an alkaline lifestyle and diet which I call the pH Miracle lifestyle and diet can lead to health, energy, vitality and fitness and the prevention of all sickness and disease, including the prevention or the reversal of rheumatoid arthritis. (1,2)

The immune system contains a complex organization of cells and antibodies (acid chelators) designed normally to "collect and eliminate" cellular debris NOT "seek and destroy" some phantom invader (virus, bacteria, yeast, mold) of the body, from the outside world. (1,2) ?Patients with rheumatoid arthritis create antibodies which are then released to target, bind and neutralize dietary, metabolic, respiratory and/or environmental acids preventing inflammation or acid buildup of the tissues, joints and/or organs. Because acid can affect multiple other organs of the body, rheumatoid arthritis is a systemic acidic retention condition I call "Systemic Latent Tissue Acidosis."

Picture of a joint affected by dietary and/or metabolic acid causing rheumatoid arthritis

While rheumatoid arthritis is a chronic acidic symptomology, meaning it can last for years, patients may experience periods without symptoms. However, rheumatoid arthritis will become a progressive acidic illness as acids buildup in the connective and fatty tissues that has the potential to cause joint destruction and functional disability if the patient continues his/her acidic lifestyle and diet. (1,2)

A joint is where two bones meet to allow movement of body parts. Arthritis means joint inflammation caused by tissue acidosis. ?The joint inflammation or acids of rheumatoid arthritis causes swelling, pain, stiffness, and redness in the joints. The acid caused inflammation of rheumatoid disease can also occur in tissues around the joints, such as the tendons, ligaments, and muscles when dietary, metabolic, respiratory and/or environmental acids are retained and not properly eliminated due to congestion of the elimination organs, including the bowels, lungs, skin and/or urinary tract system.

In some people with rheumatoid arthritis, ?the retention of dietary, metabolic, respiratory and/or environmental acids leads to chronic inflammation and the destruction of the cartilage, bone, and ligaments, causing deformity of the joints. Acidic damage to the joints can occur early in the disease and can be progressive as acids buildup in the connective and fatty tissues. Moreover, studies have shown that the progressive acidic damage to the joints does not necessarily correlate with the degree of pain, stiffness, or swelling present in the joints. (16)

Rheumatoid arthritis is a common acidic rheumatic disease, affecting approximately 1.3 million people in the United States, according to current census data. The disease is a symptom of acid retention that is three times more common in women as in men. I would suggest that women tend to ingest higher levels of lactose/lactic acid or rheumatoid dis-ease causing acidic foods such as chocolate, ice cream, yogurt, milk, cheese, and sugar, in all of its forms, including honey, maple syrup, sucrose, maltose, fructose, and glucose. (1,2)

Men and women with rheumatoid arthritis have a high prevalence of preclinical atherosclerosis independent of traditional risk factors, suggesting that chronic acidic inflammation, and, possibly, dis-ease severity are atherogenic in this population (3).

Regarding this matter an editorial published at Circulation Journal in 1999 have discussed about the many similarities shared by rheumatoid and atherosclerosis (4).

Researchers have found that the atherosclerotic process begins very early in the course of rheumatoid arthritis with the study revealing a significant increase in intima-media thickness, an indicator of atherosclerosis, in just 18 months (5).

Other scientists have found a rapid increase in myocardial infarction risk following diagnosis of rheumatoid arthritis amongst patients diagnosed between 1995 and 2006. (6)

Having researched the blood of rheumatoid arthritis patients for over thirty years, I have found other studies investigating cardiovascular autonomic dysfunction in rheumatic diseases that validates my own conclusions. (1,2) Although there are few studies in this direction, I have noticed that the sympathetic nervous system activity may be elevated in rheumatic diseases compared with health patients (7, 8). According, my view the sympathetic predominance is the primary factor in the cascade of events leading to increased lactic acid retention from oxygen deprivation, dairy products and high sugar fruit leads to an acidic environment and latent tissue acidosis", generating atherogenesis (9, 10).

Also, I have discovered a study from the eighties showing high values of lactate/lactic acid in seropositive rheumatic disease and crystal-induced arthritis (the solidification of dietary and/or metabolic lactic acid), with the author suggesting that synovial lactate/lactic acid measurement could be a reliable indicator for differentiating inflammatory arthritides (11).

In parallel, the amount of lactate/lactic acid released by the myocardium has been shown to be related to the severity of coronary artery disease (12, 13).

Going deeper I found additional scientific research validating my own acid retention theory with the following information from a paper published in 1924 (14), entitled ?The alleged role of lactic acid in arthritis and rheumatoid conditions?, that says:

?In 1858 Richardson published the results of extensive experiments on dogs in which the injection of large quantities of lactic acid, intraperitoneally, was followed by severe joint involvement. The condition of the joints was similar to that seen in acute arthritis, and Richardson suggested that the arthritic syndrome was due to an accumulation of lactic acid in the body. This theory found further support in 1877, when Foster reported that the administration of lactic acid by mouth to two diabetic patients resulted in painful and swollen joints. The pain and swelling persisted as long as the lactic acid administration was continued and disappeared promptly after the lactic acid was discontinued. These early experiments were apparently never repeated or extended but they have exerted some influence in the formation of hypotheses regarding the disease?.

This paper from 1924 strengthens my conviction, placed in the article, ?"Old experiments with rabbits and dogs," provides powerful evidence of my acid retention theory causing All sickness and disease, including rheumatoid arthritis and atherosclerosis, where it was shown that lactic acid-fed rabbits and dogs may develop atherosclerotic lesions. (15)

Arthritis, Rheumatoid Arthritis and Alkalinity

A recently published study in the Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism (Vol 94, No 1 96-102, 2009) has provided further evidence that the consumption of and supplementation with alkaline minerals is essential for good health. The objective of the study was to understand the effect of alkaline minerals (potassium bicarbonate, sodium bicarbonate and potassium chloride) on bone health ? specifically, the ability of these alkaline minerals to slow the bone resorption rate and calcium excretion.

The participants who were taking the bicarbonate supplements had significant reductions in urinary N-telopeptide and calcium excretion when compared to the control group. This means that when taking the alkaline minerals, bones remained stronger and healthier. (16

)

In the Journal of Orthomolecular Medicine, Joseph Campbell provides a thorough review of the scientific literature surrounding minerals and disease and highlights that the alkaline minerals, magnesium and calcium, are critical to the prevention of cardiovascular disease (CVD). He also highlights that ?Excessive consumption of acid producing foods, results in metabolic acidosis. When this occurs, the parathyroid hormone stimulates the removal of calcium from the bones and teeth (osteolysis), to buffer or neutralize the excess acidity, including lactate and lactic acid. After many years, such calcium loss results in depleted bone, bone weakness and structure.? (17)

Alkaline Mineral Supplementation Decreases Pain in Rheumatoid Arthritis Patients

This incredible study from Institute for Prevention and Nutrition (Germany) provides clear and unquestionable evidence that using an alkaline mineral supplementation (30g daily) reduces pain and increased movement in patients with moderately active Rheumatoid Arthritis over a 12-week period. (18)

Note on Sodium:??The source of sodium can also come from non-processed sea or lake salts, not processed table salt or the salt added to refined foods.

Sodium According to My Research:

Today?s common table salt is made up of chemicals that pollute the body fluids and wreak havoc on the alkaline design of the body. ?Table salt is 97.5% sodium chloride and 2.5% chemicals, such as moisture absorbents, and iodine. Dried at over 1,200 degrees Fahrenheit, the excessive heat alters the natural chemical structure of the salt causing the potential for a myriad of health challenges in your body. For more details on the importance of sodium chloride/salt in the diet read my article: "Salt That Heals and Salt That Kills" -?http://articlesofhealth.blogspot.com/2006/10/salt-that-kills-and-salt-that-heals.html

Sodium is the most important essential alkalizing element in the body, and the above listed alkaline vegetables will provide the body with a good, clean akaline source of this important mineral.

SUMMARY

Sufficient alkaline minerals is essential to good health and the prevention or cure of arthritis or rheumatoid arthritis. ?To stay alkaline and ?healthy and free from all sickness and disease, including free from arthritis and rheumatoid arthritis, the body needs support by minimizing dietary acids and focusing on the ingestion of alkalizing green fruit, vegetables and drinking 9.5pH alkaline water. ?When you over-consume acidic foods and drinks, the body will be forced to use its alkaline reserves (calcium from bones, for example) to neutralize these dietary acids which in turn may then lead to joint, tissue and organ inflammation and degeneration. The body can only make alkaline buffers from base minerals, including sodium, magnesium, potassium and calcium. ?By giving the body an abundance of alkalinity or base minerals through diet and mineral supplemention will not only ease the acid burden from diet and/or metabolism but also give the body the tools it needs to function optimally. (1)

The four main alkaline minerals are sodium, magnesium, potassium and calcium (clean, not refined table salt). These are abundant in fresh green fruit and vegetables. ?I recommend ingesting at least 12 servings each day based upon a body weighing 70 kg or 154 pounds! (1)

I also recommend two alkalizing mineral supplements - pH Miracle pHour Salts and pH Miracle pHlavor salts (www.phmiracle.com) for preventing and reversing joint, tissue and organ inflammation, including Arthiritis, Rheumatoid Arthritis, Osteoporosis, CVC, and more. ?In the short-medium term these two alkalizing mineral supplements will help undo any previous acidic damage and assist in detoxifying the body of dietary, metabolic, respiratory and environmental acids. ?In the long-term will help to maintain the alkaline design of the bodily fluids, giving you a daily safety net to protect the body joints, tissues, and organs from the acidic waste products of diet and metabolism that cause ALL sickness and disease, including arthritis and rheumatoid arthritis. Election 2012: Liberal Schadenfreude Hits Impossible Heights

President Obama winning would have satisfied most Democrats, winning decisively in the Electoral College was a bonus. And it only got better for progressives from there as an array of victories, big and small, tangible and symbolic, trickled down in elections and ballot measures around the country.

From a stunning Senate wave to new ballot measures on drugs and gay marriage to meltdowns among their favorite nemeses, Democrats had plenty to rub in conservative's faces (and they did, often, on Twitter). Here's a quick rundown of a few of the more savory wins for the left.

A Landmark Night For Gay Rights

Remember 2004, when a gay marriage backlash helped sweep President Bush into a solid victory over John Kerry? Tuesday was the opposite of that.

Multiple states legalized same sex marriage -- Maryland, Maine, and Washington -- becoming the first to do so by popular vote instead of court decision or legislation. Minnesota voters rejected a ban on gay marriage. Making the victories extra sweet: polling evidence that Obama's personal endorsement of gay marriage, another watershed validated by the election, was a difference maker in Maryland.

But the biggest moment may have been in Wisconsin, where Tammy Baldwin defeated a former governor, Tommy Thompson, to become the first openly gay senator in history. At least as remarkable is that her orientation was a complete non-issue for both parties in the campaign.

After what's already been a hugely successful few years for gay rights advocates, there's little question which direction the country is heading. As Mother Jones' Adam Serwer put it on Twitter:

Karl Rove Sets Billionaire's Money On Fire:

Karl Rove was the bogeyman that powered thousands of Democratic fundraising emails to supporters. And they had reason to be scared. Exploiting new rules under Citizens United and a general outpouring of disgust for Obama from the nation's richest citizens, Rove raised hundreds of millions of dollars from mega-donors, much of it anonymously.

Now he has to explain to the billionaires why their unprecedented spending earned them -- nothing. For all the money spent, there's still a Democratic president and, almost as unbelievably, a net gain in the Senate.

Just that thought would have been enough for Democrats, but Rove happened to be on live TV as the results were called on FOX News for Obama. In an epic on-air tantrum, he refused to acknowledge Obama had won, sending anchor Megyn Kelly walking off-set to ask the network's vote analysts to explain for him why tipping point Ohio was lost to Romney. Democrats will be replaying this clip for years to cheer them up in their darker moments.

Two Words: Allen West

The most most prominent members of the tea party -- we called them the "tea party Mt. Rushmore" in September -- faced very tough races last night, giving Democrats standing to say the movement is looking weaker. Two of the Republicans Democrats love to hate went down in defeat, meaning the next Congress will have no Allen West (FL) or Joe Walsh (IL). Michele Bachmann (MN) apparently survived, though her Democratic opponent declined to concede and called for a recount. Of the most incendiary tea party voices on the hill, only Steve King (IA) had a drama-free night.

Look for Democrats to cast the West and Walsh results as proof they had a good night despite failing to win back a House majority.

Pot For Everyone!

Liberals in Colorado and Washington are probably celebrating Obama's re-election in their usual fashion. But this time it's legal.

In a development right out of one of David Simon's daydreams, two states passed landmark ballot measures legalizing the recreational use of marijuana. This puts them afoul of federal drug laws and sets up a likely confrontation with the Obama administration, which has been cracking down recently on medicinal marijuana in states that allow it. But the results pointed to a huge cultural shift in the direction of laxer drug laws, especially out west.

Stardom Denied Mia Love ... For Now

Saratoga Springs, Utah, mayor Mia Love was one of the few objectively breakout stars of the Republican National Convention in Tampa. Republicans were excited at the prospect of having their first black female member of Congress after public polling showed her pulling ahead in her race against incumbent Rep. Jim Matheson (D). Those polls proved to be wrong, and Matheson came away with the win Tuesday. Given Love's growing national profile in Republican circles, it's unlikely her defeat Tuesday pushes her off the scene for long. But Democrats kept one of the GOP's brightest prospects back in Utah for at least another two years.

The Kids Are Alright

Democrats felt good about their big margins with Latinos and African Americans heading into the election (and even better heading out of it as their voting coalition steamrolled Republicans in states around the country). But the young voters who showed up for Obama in 2008 were another story. Polls showed them significantly less enthused, and the Romney campaign thought the rough economy would be enough for them to bring some over to their side. It wasn't a coincidence that the most memorable line of Paul Ryan's convention speech was about "fading Obama posters" on their walls.

But in a happy surprise for Democrats, they showed up in droves for Obama again in 2012. Voters under 30 made up 19% of the electorate per exit polling, an increase of their share from 2008. And Obama still blew out Romney on the margins, winning their vote 60-36. As the Republican Party gets older, the prospect of a rapidly growing generation of reliable Democrats that actually shows up on Election Day is about the worst news possible.

Trump's Meltdown

If you thought Karl Rove's five stages of grief on FOX News was fun, you should have had Donald Trump's twitter feed bookmarked in your browser. Obama's crassest opponent let loose with an epic screed that translated loosely to "I'm melllllting, I'm melllllting!"

This last one might have just been projection:

Oh, and did we mention Elizabeth Warren won?
